NLA welcomes tax-breaks for green landlords

The National Landlords Association (NLA) has welcomed the new tax
breaks for environmentally-friendly landlords.
Landlords are now able to claim a maximum of £1,500 per
property against the cost of installing energy-saving measures such
as draught proofing, loft insulation and cavity wall
installing.
That could mean a saving of up to £600 for higher-rate tax
payers.
It follows legislation that requires all rental properties in
England and Wales with a new tenancy to have an Energy Performance
Certificate from October 1st 2008.
Commenting on the tax breaks, David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA,
said: "As well as contributing to the overall efforts by society to
combat climate change, landlords may see an increase in the value
of their investment as a result of energy efficiency
improvements."
Last week the organisation warned that the proposed branded rental
accommodation scheme could compromise the diversity of Britain's
rental market.
