Home insurance covers Xmas gifts, says ABI

Homeowners can rest easy in the knowledge that home insurance
policies will cover the cost of Christmas presents, it has been
claimed.
According to home insurance provider Direct Line, expensive
presents being stored in the home over the Christmas period means
that the value of home contents often increases massively.
Therefore, the home insurance provider, said it is imperative that
homeowners to increase the cover provided by their home insurance
policy.
However, Malcolm Tarling the Association of British Insurers has
rebuffed these claims.
He said: "Many policies will now automatically increase your sum
insured on a temporary basis for the months either side of
Christmas to take into account the value of items that you've got
in your home - the increased value of items you've got - over that
period."
Mr Tarling did however urge homeowners to check the terms of their
contracts to ensure that extra cover is provided during the
gift-giving season.
