First-time buyer appetite increasing

More people will be looking to get their first piece of UK property
this year, according to the latest figures released by a financial
advisory website.
Unbiased.co.uk said that, in April of this year, 39 per cent of all
requests it received for advice were to do with first-time buying.
This increased from 37 per cent the month earlier.
It had been expected that the appetite of first timers for buying a
home would decrease after the stamp duty holiday ended on March
24th, leaving those looking to buy facing an additional levy of at
least £1,250, but this may turn out not to be the case if
interest is anything to go by.
Karen Barrett, chief executive of unbiased.co.uk, said: "Over the
last weeks we have seen lenders raise mortgage rates and tighten
their lending criteria, putting further strain on people wanting to
get on the property ladder, which will be a contributing factor to
the rise in FTB enquiries."
