FMB launches policy proposals

The Federation of Master Builders has sought to use the imminent
party political conference season to influence housing polices by
launching a new document outlining a series of proposals it
believes will boost the market if adopted.
Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg was sent a copy of the blueprint
ahead of his party's conference in Bournemouth next week.
Among the proposals are a simplification of the planning system and
a proposal to make stamp duty fairer for home buyers through the
introduction of a graduated tax.
This would help those whose home value is just above any of the
banding thresholds by only charging the higher rate on that
proportion of the home's value that is in that band.
Housing is an issue that is likely to be high on the agenda for all
the parties as they meet in the coming weeks.
The Liberal Democrats conference programme has scheduled a debate
on the issue on Tuesday morning.
