Estate agents see rise in property demand

Estate agents have seen a rise in the demand for property, despite
mortgage restrictions.
The National Association of Estate Agents reported that June saw an
increase in the number of people enquiring about houses for
sale.
In May 265 people registered an interest in buying properties while
in June there was an average of 279 enquiries per branch.
This comes despite the number of houses available on the market
falling from 62 per estate
agent
Michael Jones, president of NAEA, said: "There is clearly demand
for property at present but these figures suggest that the banks
are still being restrictive in their mortgage lending policies to
buyers."
While the demand for houses is currently higher than available
properties, Jeremy Leaf, of the Royal Institution of Chartered
Surveyors, suggested that there could be a large rise in the number
of people putting their homes on the market over the coming
months.
